What Are The Fundamental Differences Between IPTV And DTH?

IPTV stands for Internet Protocol Television, which is the relatively new medium of reaching more digital consumers of thousands of TV channels and their respective content at a greater and faster rate during the present times when the world is undergoing rapid technological development at a go. DTH (acronym used for Direct to Home) refers to the traditional cable TV service which involves the use of a set top box coupled with a satellite dish plate, usually installed on the roof tops. Let us have a look the advantages and disadvantage of IPTV and DTH over one another by compare and contrast and also focus on some statistical data which suggest why more and more people are deciding to switch to IPTV in recent days.

In a DTH system, the dish antenna installed on your rooftop receives the satellite and the software installed internally on the set top box of your TV immediately recognizes the satellite corresponding to your channel and streams them ( for the one’s you have subscribed and  usually pre-paid to your cable TV service provider). At times, cable TV services can be postpaid too, depending on the quantity of time you keep the TV switched on.

IPTV (Internet Protocol TV) does not involve the use of any satellite and/or remote sensing. It primarily uses the Internet as a medium. Recent examples of brands or services that provide IPTV along with various other online streaming options are: Jio, Airtel and several others. Jio hads launched its own Wifi device, popularly known as JioFi which can give Wifi and fast Internet connectivity at merely the click of a button. Airtel has also launched its Wifi device which is much sleeker and more user-friendly, although the feature of being postpaid is one big disadvantage because users have to be always cautious with the amount of data they are using almost every moment. Wifi can be used to enable both private connections for home and/or office connections, that is, for a single person or a limited number of people, for other requirements, it can be used on a large number of devices for a public network too, the downside being the speed of the Internet is going to get considerably reduced on each of the individual devices, by the obvious rule of ratio and proportion. Hotstar, Netflix and Amazon Prime videos are facing a hike in popularity, with today’s tech-savvy generation watching mini series with 4 or 5 episodes as well on the go, even on public transport while travelling. This is a good pastime as well as reduces the time wasted in actually sitting on the couch at home and switching on the TV and waiting for the episode to stream at a fixed interval of time. Today, we belong to a generation that is always online and IPTV is the one suitable for us.
